Underpunks RPG — Best Start Guide
This extensive beginners guide is written from your perspective, as a potential player. It just needs you to select an option from each multiple choice question, to ensure you get the best start for your playstyle.

I saw there were some farms on waxdao and investigated — then found a medium article explaining the concept and how the dev actually gives a shit and decided to do my own research. [DanAsker]
Where do I start?
Read through the six multiple choice questions to discover your play style.
The Answer section will then tell you what NFTs to buy (if any) and how to begin your Underpunks journey.
Answers for all the following questions are at the bottom…
QUESTION #1 (investment)
☐ A — I only want to Free-to-Play.
☐ B — I’m prepared to spend $20 to $50 once, on the right tool (NFT).
☐ C — I want to get a guaranteed supply of unique NFTs every month and sell the ones I don’t want.
☐ D — I want to own a Corporation, create my own theme park, co-design some gameplay, and become an NFT distributor for the World of Underpunks.
QUESTION #2 (community)
☐ A — I want to join the Guild of Guards and use strength with overt two-handed weapons in combat.
☐ B — I want to join the Guild of Thieves and use stealth with dual-wield concealed weapons.
☐ C — I want to join the Guild of Monks to increase my health and use martial arts without the need for shiny weapons and armour.
☐ D — I want to join the Guild of Spies, avoid combat, focus on puzzle solving, and access secret information about the game that could give me a trading edge.
☐ E — I don’t want to join a guild because it means I have to verify my account by sending the trustworthy dev a quick video so he knows I am not a bot with multiple accounts. I prefer not to be treated as a ‘real’ person.

Investment:
From free-to-play to pay-to-earn there will be an option here to suit your budget.
1A — FREE-TO-PLAY
To play the game without ever investing any money or cryptocurrency, enter the game via one of the 6 player-owned spawn points and when you arrive, ask your NOBLE about the free-to-play, Squire tutorial. See 5E, 5B, 5C, 5D, 5E.
1B — PAY-TO-START
If you are able risk a one-time $20 to $50 investment on the right tools, keep working through the answers to your multiple choice selections and make a note of the LINKS⁰ with a ⁰. These are the NFTs you’ll will want to consider buying from other players via the Atomic Hub marketplace.
NOTE: As the dev, I don’t sell NFTs directly or collect a commission on any resales.
1C — PAY-TO-EARN
If you want support the dev and get all the unique new tools, weapons, items and followers that get released each month, go to Patreon and select the pledge you can manage.

1D —PAY-FOR-MORE

Community:
Guilds are an important part of any MMORPG. The best part of any game is the people that you will meet and play the game with.
2A — If you want to join the Guild of Guards for low risk and cool rewards, you will need to verify your account via a quick, “I’m a real person” video sent to the Dev. You can then go to the Royal Training Yards to begin training strength using the !train command.
NOTE: Buying a SHORT SWORD⁰ is recommended if you want to visit the dungeon and as you level up you will loot some of the best weapons in the game.
2B — If you want to join the Guild of Thieves for high risk and high rewards, you will need to verify your account via a quick, “I’m a real person” video sent to the Dev. You can then go to the Tor Moor to begin training stealth using the !leap command. Thieves also wing-suit their way into rewarding heists.
NOTE: Buying an affordable TINY DAGGER⁰ is recommended if you want to visit the dungeon and as you level up you will be able to dual wield two of them.
2C — If you want want to join the Guild of Monks for an early-game, fighting advantage you will need to verify your account via a quick, “I’m a real person” video sent to the Dev. You can then go to the Temple to increase your 88.18 fortitude (health) using the !gong command. At 90 health you will unlock the WuFu (martial arts) ability.
NOTE: You don’t need to buy any weapons or armour.
2D — If you want to join the Guild of Spies for puzzle gameplay and trading advantages you will need to verify your account via a quick, “I’m a real person” video sent to the Dev. You can then go to the Basement to train knowledge using the !solve command.
NOTE: You should talk to an existing Spy before joining, as this gameplay is much slower and not for everyone.
2E — If you prefer to remain anonymous and not verify your account, you will have to restrict your activities to the Queens Quarry using the !work command and only visit the dungeon when a Hideous Key is found.
NOTE: To mine for Shards you will need to buy one (or all four) of the hand-mining tools: SHOVEL⁰, PICK⁰, HAMMER⁰, or CHISEL⁰.
Occupation:
As you navigate around the 50 room map you can use one of the 100+ commands to perform your actions. Actions are typed directly into your current map room on Discord and should always start with an exclamation mark.
3A — If you want to mine for 💩 Brown Rock NFTs, buy the SINGING SHOVEL⁰. If you want to mine for Gem NFTs buy the POLISHED PICK⁰ or the LUCKY PICK⁰. If you want to mine for Magic Powders buy the HAGRIDDEN HAMMER⁰ of LUCKY HAMMER⁰. If you want to loot Building NFTs or have the best chance at finding Dungeon Keys buy the CELESTIAL CHISEL⁰.
ACTION: Use one of these four commands, every hour, in the Queens Quarry depending on which tool you own: !shovel !pick !hammer !chisel. Every tool has a chance to loot a Shard NFT.
3B — If you want to forage for SHROOM NFTs to stake in the ‘current’ WaxDAO NFT Farm you will need VERIFY your account and own any SHARD⁰.
ACTION: Use the !walk command in the Shroom Cave every 2hrs.
3C — If you want to fish on the safe shallow ponds, buy a BROWN FISHING POLE⁰. If you are looking for a bigger challenge the fishing poles increase in rarity from Brown, Yellow, Orange, Purple, Pink, Green, Blue, Red, White and Black.
ACTION: Use the !fling frt command in Westshire every hour.
3D — If you want to drive crazy machines, build new roads and expand the colony. You will need to buy ALL FOUR hand-mining tools and then use the !drive command in any of the 6 shires. See 2E.
3E — If you want to advance the colony’s understanding or Trebuchets, Propulsion, Solid Fuels, Rockets and Nuclear Fusion, you will need to buy a WRENCH⁰ and use a supply of mined Dungeon Keys (see 3A) via a CHISEL⁰. Then it gets complicated, because it’s “rocket science” and the space program evolves at every level… Just ask in game to speak to any of the Ratropian Space Agency (RSA) players for guidance.
OPTIONAL: A T5 pledge on Patreon unlocks the TECH skill which boosts your ability to discover NFTs during the RSA gameplay.
NOTE: You could also just skip the program and buy an extremely rare and expensive OORT UFO⁰.
3F — If you just want to kill things in the dungeon and loot some armour, you will need to buy a SHORT SWORD⁰ and also a CHISEL⁰ to collect your Dungeon Keys. Then go to Gorecrest Cradle in the Dungeon and use the !attack command. If you don’t have any WAXP to buy NFTs you can use the !take command in certain rooms and sell those NFTs for WAXP.
NOTE: Your exact weapon choice will change depending on which skill you have unlocked via the guild system (see 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D).
3G — Making clothes (while in need of more development) require a SEWING KIT⁰ and a HAMMER⁰ so you can collect the coloured powders used to dye your designs.
NOTE: This is purely a cosmetic feature.
Advanced:
While everything above would be a great place for a new player to start, the following gameplay options are a little more advanced.
4A — If you want to study magic you need to be prepared for how hard and complicated it will be. It can take months of ingredient questing and training just to get past level 1 and there are 10 levels. You will need a HAMMER⁰ to collect powders for ink. You will need a SHARD⁰ and a Verified account to collect shroom juice for ink. You will need to learn how to read (decode) the secret alphabet that is written on many NFTs. You will then !take a book from the Magic Academy along with your ink and !scribe in the Scriptorium.
NOTE: Each level of magic requires different ingredients which are not NFTs and therefore you can’t just buy them. It takes time!
4B — If you want to breed and train dragons the best one to start with is a BROWN DRAKE EGG⁰. However, hatching one into a BROWN DRAKE BABY⁰ is a difficult ingredient quest, and it does require some skills (see 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D) to sacrifice into Leadership, before you can command it. These baby dragons are extremely good at finding all the lost keys, hidden immediately inside the Dungeon.
4C — If you want to be part of a multiplayer team onboard a boat, vehicle or rocketship you will need develop some skills (see 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D) and then offer your services to a Captain (player who owns one) as these vessels are extremely rare and require a diverse team to operate. Alternatively you could buy an even rarer UFO⁰ which can be flown solo.
NOTE: The UFOs give you access to the vast Oort Cloud of procedurally generated asteroids way outside the solar system.
4D — If you want to explore some horror and fight your way through the 36 undead bosses on a 10 minute combat timer, you will need to buy a GRIM KEEPER⁰ to access the age restricted ‘Barrows End’ instance. The ultimate goal is to summon one of those creatures into the mortal realm as your master.
Spawn:
To join the Discord server it is best to enter through one of the player-run Spawn point linked below. You will arrive as a free-to-play Squire working to collect tailings, to earn coin, so you can buy a fragile weapon to fight vermin with, and loot your first NFTs. Your Noble may also help you get started.
5A — Enter the game via the Westshire Spawn Point if you want to increase the in-game-only currency we call COIN and enjoy the game in luxury.

5B — Enter the game via the Upshire Spawn Point if you want to adventure your way to the surface of Ratropia and be the first to explore all the new opportunities on the surface of the continent.

5D — Enter the game via the Northshire Spawn Point if you just want to have a really fun gaming experience.

5E — If you want to own a Spawn Point, as of December 2022, there are only two shires left. Eastshire (Pirate-river theme) and Downshire (Dwarven-volcanic theme). These are only available via a T6 pledge and all Shires earn COIN every time a player finds an NFT on your Shire (see 1D). They do require some new-player management skills.
Timers:
Underpunks is designed to be a relationship-friendly, work-friendly, game that you can play passively on your phone via the Discord app. It is highly recommend that you turn off all alerts and mute all your channels when using Discord.
6A — If you only want to do an action every 6hrs, you should consider the following activities. Advanced fishing with a FISHING POLE (PINK)⁰ in Eastshire.
6B — If you can only manage an action every 3 to 5 hours, you should consider the following activities. Playing in Northshire (asset coming soon). Studying magic in the Scriptorium (see 4A). Mining in Southshire with a LUCKY PICK⁰ and LUCKY HAMMER⁰.
6E — If you can definitely do an action every 2hrs you should be training your Guild skill in either the Training yard (Guards), Tor Moor (Thieves), Temple (Monks) or Tavern Basement (Spies). See 2A, 2B, 2C or 2D.
Alternatively… Gathering Shroom NFTS in the Shroom Cave with a SHARD⁰ and a Verified account.
While 2hrs is the most common timer in Underpunks, the Queens Quarry is your best choice. You can get started with just a SINGING SHOVEL⁰
6F — If you are ready to do an action every 1 hour you can buy a BROWN FISHING POLE⁰ and use it on Westshire.
6G — If you are looking for fast combat action every 10mins, buy a GRIM KEEPER⁰ to access the age restricted ‘Barrows End’ instance.
6E — If you want to hire NPC crews to work all the above activities for you, that is going to entail acquiring a lot of COIN to pay them with. Joining the guild of Guards for regular pay and then investing that coin via a SINGING CHEST⁰ would be a great start.
Allegiance:
The following is a deeper level gameplay that asks you to support and/or work for the player-run corporations. NOTE: You are not restricted to just supporting one CORP.
7A — ZCORP
“Luck is When Preparation Meets Opportunity.”
Starting with a rudimentary interest in upgrades and repairs, ZIBETHICUS produces quality of life products to make your mining easier.
HQ: Southshire spawn point.
Recommended NFTS: LUCKY PICK⁰ and LUCKY HAMMER⁰.
7B — TFI
“Treasure Your Finances, Because We Do.”
Treasure Financials Incorporated is founded on the bedrock of the oldest financial institution in the world of Underpunks. Increasing your in-game coin is their number one goal.

Recommended NFTS: TREASURE MAP⁰ and SINGING CHEST⁰.
7C — HEX.
“Reach The Light of Progress.”
The Helios Exploration Group’s eyes are fixed squarely on the Sun and the stars. Their goal is to expand the known territory that players can explore and claim.
